Creating space for your soul to breathe so you can discern your next right thing.

88: Come Away For Awhile

“If you don’t come apart for awhile, you will come apart after awhile.” — Dallas Willard

When God came to earth in the person of Jesus, he got away alone. Even though he remained in constant communion with his father when he walked along the road and had lunch with his neighbors and taught on the mountainside, he still found it necessary to get away.

If God himself set an intention to come away for awhile, how much more is it necessary for us? And what does that look like in our regular life?

That’s the topic of todays’ reflection and your practical invitation to a potential next right thing.

This is so beautifully timely. I never did learn how to rest and restore in the midst of my life, and it was wrecking my health, so God changed my life in dramatic fashion. My husband left his job (which was killing him), we sold our home, bought a travel trailer and left everything and everyone behind. My husband now works various jobs that can take us anywhere. In the middle of all that our son, second oldest of our four grown kids, took his life. So…in a season of intense loss and comprehensive letting-go, God removed me from my home, work, ministry, rich friendships and proximity to our surviving children and aging parents. He shifted my entire life to a season of Sabbath. I am slowly fumbling my way to understand how to be this still, how to welcome this lovingly enforced rest. I will listen to this episode again, and probably again as it speaks to where I am. Thank you for sharing this.
