Creating space for your soul to breathe so you can discern your next right thing.

66: Don’t Let the Ending Define the Whole Story

When an ending is difficult, it’s easy to color the entire reality through the lens of how it ended, whether it’s a relationship, a job, a dream project, or a life.

The ending does not get to define the whole story. Maybe it’s time to take back the narrative. This could be a life-giving part of your healing. This could be your next right thing.

I’ll just be over here, sobbing in the corner. Thank you for this reminder to not get stuck in the pain of the ending. XOXO

On July 3, 2017, my 96 year old grandmother, and the best friend I ever had, passed away. She had always been in good health her whole life. 4 months before she died, she was in a head on car crash. (Yes, she was still driving) The accident was not her fault, she was driving as careful as she always did. She was hit by a 17 year old driver who was doing donuts in his dad’s Mercedes. The fall-out from the accident was too much for her body, but she said she was ready. She had lived an amazing life, travelled the world, lost her beloved when she was in her early 60s. The thought of them finally together in Heaven soothes my soul. And the knowledge that I will see her again someday. Thank you for this beautiful episode that I needed to hear today

What a beautiful word emily, ” like apples of Gold in pitchers of silver…,” thank you for sharing the treasure of your grandmother “budder” s life. So precious.

    Oh Emily,
This podcast episode was a much needed balm to my soul. My precious Grandmother passed away almost 18 years ago. She was my closest friend, such a constant presence in my life. Her death was so unexpected to me, and left my world unhinged. She had made it through surgery, a few days prior. She passed away, while unattended, at home, a few days later. It is easy for me to get caught up in the unknowns and the whys at the end of her life. I often ponder how good it would have been to have said one last goodbye, to give her one more hug. But the truth is, how can you ever properly say goodbye to someone you love so much? What matters most is those 20 years that I was able to enjoy her presence. Her sudden passing does not get to define the whole thing.
Thank you for sharing what you learned through the process of grieving and grappling with the loss of Budder. Thank you for sharing her beautiful story with us. You are a gift and a ray of hope to this world.

I cannot thank you enough , I like the other listeners , share a similar story with the recent passing of my 90 year old mother. I’m living in the guilt and the what if’s at the moment so I am especially grateful for the encouragement that I received from listening to your story (several times already). I too passed it on

I lost my best friend to suicide at the young age of 26. This episode touched my soul so much that I listened to it twice! For so long, I’ve focused on the ending of my friendship with my best friend but as you’ve said, don’t let the ending be the narrative!

I want to thank you for speaking truth. There are not many podcasts that would listen to each episode more than once! ❤️❤️❤️

Diana, I’m glad to know the episode helped you to embrace the whole story of your friendship and not only the ending. Thank you for listening!

Episode 66 really spoke to me and my current situation of ending one job (12 years) and the pain associated with that. I appreciate the reminder to look for the joy in the new beginning and how God was so clearly with me through the whole process. I am where He wants me to be whether or not it was easy to get here.
Thank you for doing what you do. You are a blessing.
    Joan
