It’s the end of the month so it’s time to share what we learned in August! Remember, this is a place to share all kinds of learning, both the silly and the serious. I lean toward sharing the silly since I tend to share the serious every other day. But any and all learning is welcome.
Here are seven things I learned in August in no particular order.
1. Instead of saying, “My patient is 5 cm dilated” or “My patient is pushing” my nurse friend Anna tells me she and fellow labor and delivery nurses simply say, “I’m 5 cm, ” or “I’m pushing” when updating their colleagues on their patient’s progress.
I love learning little tidbits about other professions.
2. The color of a labrador retriever’s nose let’s you know if they will have black, yellow, or chocolate puppies.
Our neighbor just got a new puppy and it came up. Unfortunately I can’t remember exactly what she said (brown nose means they can have chocolate puppies, black nose means they can’t?) but it was an interesting thing to learn.
On second thought, I guess I didn’t learn that one. I should probably not include it. Anyone want to school me on the nose color issue?
3. Sometimes rest takes courage.
4. Nick Offerman (Ron Swanson) is married to Megan Mullally (Tammy Two) in real life.
Thank you, Relevant Magazine, for this image of them and the information I feel like I should have known many years ago.
5. Speaking of shows, I oddly enjoy listening to people talk about shows I don’t watch.
It’s interesting to hear them have strong opinions and information about story lines and relationships that don’t make sense to me.
But it’s only interesting if it’s a show I know I’m never going to watch. Otherwise, it’s called spoilers and it’s completely annoying.
6. Some of you may remember back in January my Dad wrote a four-week Art Course to go along with A Million Little Ways. Well, in August I finally learned how to more easily distribute it!
7. Standing on my head has simplified my life.
No, really. I’ve been doing (taking? practicing?) yoga for about a year now and have been spending some time on my head. There are many life lessons to be learned from standing on your head, I’ve discovered. (I wrote an entire post about that in Hopeologie last month, complete with photo proof. Which you can read. If you’re a member.)
