Artists Who Influence-2

I am not a person who is a die-hard fan of much. I don’t follow the entire career of any actors or musicians, don’t read biography after autobiography of any one author, saint, or hero. I’m not an expert on any one book or movie (although my knowledge of The Wizard of Oz challenges the truth of that statement) (more on that later in the month).

Mostly, I dabble. I listen. I watch and read and take from a buffet of inspiration.

I invite many different influences into my life and my work and let them hang out in my soul. They have coffee (sometimes tea) and linger. They talk with one another in my head and my work and life are made more full because of them. Some of them you have heard of. Some of them you haven’t.

31 Days button 200Every day in October, I will share them with you, one for each day of the month.

I want to honor the influence these artists have had in my life as well as perhaps encourage you to consider the artists who have touched your own.

Real quick, my definition of art and artist.

Artist: A person who is brave enough to move toward what makes her come alive.

Art: What happens when you dare to be who you really are; when what is most alive in you is offered as a gift to others.

These influencers aren’t necessarily painters, sculptors, or song-writers (although some of them actually are), but they all have been brave enough to explore what makes them come alive and are generous enough to share it. Their work and their lives have touched something alive within me over the years and this seems a good time to share them with you.

Onward! Tomorrow I’ll share a bonus: two artists who influence – so we’ll have a cool 31. As the month progresses, you can visit this page to see all the artists in one place or here are the first few day to get you started:
