One Thing Jesus Never Taught

Jesus never taught his disciples how to preach, only how to pray. - Andrew Murray

Sometimes you read something and it makes you think for days and days. Those words by Andrew Murray from With Christ in the School of Prayer is one of those somethings for me.

Um, yes Jesus explicitly taught the disciples a prayer, but he also taught by example, otherwise how else would we know the Way and follow Him?

Perhaps the context of Andrew’s quote made what he meant clearer?

It’s always risky to pull a quote out of context. I think this was meaningful for me because while he of course taught by example many things, he made a point to say “This is how you should pray…”

He pointed out the importance of dependence on the Father in all things – whether preaching, teaching, parenting, whatever. It’s how he lived his whole life on earth – and reminds me not to focus on second things while forgetting the first.

Thanks for posting this today Emily. What a great thought to ponder. I recently read Andrew Murray’s book ‘Humility’ and it also gave me so much to think about and emulate.

This really rings true to me today, resonating with some other things God has brought to my attention lately.

“Fruitfulness flows from intimacy” – Heidi Baker. He is the vine, we are the branches. The branch’s nourishment comes through the vine. Our job is to make sure we stay attached and keep the lines clear. (I think I’m borrowing from Oswald Chambers here).

Intimacy. Staying connected to the vine. Prayer is the work needed for that.

And then, there is Matthew 28:19-20. “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them and teaching them…” what? Ministry strategy? Public speaking?

To obey. Teach them to obey everything I have commanded you.

And whenever I seriously pray, something always comes up and I find I have to choose to obey or not. So Jesus taught his disciples to pray, and when I pray like Him, and then obey everything He commands me, the fruitfulness, the preaching, the giving, the forgiving,… those will all follow.

This leads to peer pressure of younger students, like middle schoolers to try underage betting.
If a bettor is trying to bet the Red Sox and also the Giants, for example,
chances are the best line around the Red Sox as well as the best line around the Giants will be
    at different sportsbooks.
It’s very crucial that you understand these fundamentals as a way to become a successful sports bettor.

mind. Is it just me or do a few of the remarks look like they are written by
brain dead people? 😛 And, if you are posting at additional sites,
